Dragon Fest 2014

With a wealth of family friendly activities, Dragon Fest is the premier pan Asian American celebration in the Northwest. Centered in the heart of Seattle’s historic Chinatown-International District (C-ID), the Festival attracts more than 30,000 people over two days and features a line-up of over 30 cultural performances with everything from the spirited Chinese lion and dragon dances, to captivating martial arts demonstrations and Japanese taiko drumming. Bounded by the iconic Chinese Gate and beautiful Hing Hay Park, this Seafair Festival brings the streets to life with historic walking tours, a large-scale outdoor Asian market and cultural activities for people of all ages. In addition, this year the CID is excited to promote the District’s 120 restaurants through the 4th annual Dragon Fest $2 Food Walk with food from China, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and beyond! partner with Sakura Con for the 4th annual Anime Costume Contest, and add a Night Market & Dance Party to this year’s Festival. Based upon traffic, lack of parking, etc, I suspect that a lot of people may be running late. Josh, I hope your cell is fully charged to take calls. Question: would it be worth it for the group to swing back past the meeting point at 1:30(?) so late-comers can join?

We are super slow getting out the door so won't make the 12pm meet but will be in the crowd somewhere. Have fun & stay hydrated! Hope to meet some of you at another meet up.

so It was brought to my attention maybe we should pick a place to meet then we can go from there walk the festival, have some lunch, check out the dragon dancing etc. Uwajimaya seems like a good place. I'll be there at noon on Saturday.

I'm still confused about the entrance. There is an Uwajimaya entrance at the corner of 5th Ave. S. and S. Weller St. It is small and easy to find. It is ON the 5th. It's is just one block to The Chinese gate/dragon statue and easy to walk to the festival, I think. (It's in front of the LINK and bus station of International District.) The entrance near the parking lot is bigger and bit far from the festival, so it may not be convenient to meet the members. I don't know about Shell station but yes, Uwajimaya Parking lot - as long as I remember, if you buy at the store more than $7(?), it will be for free for one hour or two. I don't remember exactly, though.

I only knw parking lot entrance cause I haven't been down there since last year (been meaning go again soon to but never got to it) plus that is were the access bus dropped and picked me up. is the corner of 5th Ave. S. and S. Weller St. were those two tesla coil statues are?

On the topic of parking, I know that it /is/ the case that buying approx. $7 worth of stuff in Uwajimaya entitles a person to some free parking time, but I don't think that I'd advise parking there. After the free hour or two, the rates are expensive (as I recall). Also, I saw that around 30,000 people attend this festival over the weekend, so I wouldn't take a chance that there will be /any/ available parking at all in this area. I'm planning to get there via public transit.

I have pink/purple hair and will have two kiddos in tow. If anyone has been before, is this an event to have cash instead of card for?
