EcoHack Help Desk -- Ask A Nature Nerd!

Join us at EcoHack in San Francisco! We're looking for all sorts of Nature Nerds to hang out for a while and help the programmers, designers, and developers understand the bigger picture on their projects. This includes marine scientists and water quality experts and birders and botanists and citizen scientists and urban planners and educators , as well as hardware tinkerers and drone nerds and designers and cartographers and GIS folks.

And YOU! EcoHack is intended to be a learning exercise for everyone, so don't feel intimidated if you're not an uber-hacker. Mix and mingle, ask questions, make new friends, and help make this amazing event an even bigger success.

We'll be hosting an "Ask A Nature Nerd" table from 10AM until 3PM (think Lucy from Charlie Brown sitting in her booth :-) and the event lasts until 8 PM. Stop by just to say hi, or plan to make a day of it -- join us whenever you can. We'll also be able to wander around and see what various teams are up to. And we'll be demonstrating and getting feedback on some Nature Nerd sensor and eco-drone hardware that we've been working on.

We're not going to have all the answers but hopefully we can help provide context and references outside someone's field of expertise to point them in a useful direction. We'll also be working to cross-tabulate everyone's interests and needs, and to connect the right folks together to make awesome things happen. And how about this for a hook -- you have to ask a Nerd a question to get a cookie or a sticker :-)

If you plan to attend, please list an approximate time period you can join us and mention your interests and specialties in the comments. And RSVP on their EventBrite page, too, so they know how many folks to expect. We'll also be making a short Nerds For Nature presentation and pitching a Nerd project or two at the preceding Friday Night May 9, 6:30-9:30 PM Ignite Talks, so join us there, too!

By the way, if you've got a favorite recipe for cookies or other treats that would make great programmer fuel, bring a batch of your best!

I could stop by late morning (11+) or the afternoon. Any chance someone could create a summary of the proposed apps (like one sentence each) from Friday night so that we can think of resources in advance? Or would that not be useful?

Hey, an hour or two would be awesome, or just stop by to say hi! It's all good...

I'm a wavering "yes". I have to be at something at 3 in Oakland, so I might swing by early for an hour or two.
