Project Night!

We're now meeting once a month to do cool stuff. Join a conversation, or bring your own idea to pitch!

We've got a bunch of awesome projects underway:

DIY air quality monitoring: Help us figure out how to build, install, use, and share air quality monitors and data. We're especially keen on how to create school programs to teach kids about air pollution, air quality data, and what they can do to use data to influence policy.

Grassroots bioblitzes: We're building an ongoing program of grassroots, citizen science bioblitzes where we use our smartphones and the iNaturalist platform to gather tons of data about the plants, animals, and fungi of local parks. Awesome!

Monitoring change: We created a project to monitor landscape change and fire recovery. Help us refine the project and work on exporting the model.

Drones for Science: We have a slew of cool partners to create hardware to study the outdoors.

Your project? Nerds for Nature is all volunteer, all grassroots. Bring your project ideas!

It was great speaking with all the experienced bioblitzers! Gave me a new perspective and a fresh way of looking at things. Will definitely incorporate what I've learned in our upcoming blitz in October!

Wish I could have stayed longer but had to be somewhere at 8. Hope to stay longer at the next project night.

I'd like to get our change brackets code running on Heroku for use in the upcoming Rim Fire monitoring effort (signs up by Aug 11).

Happy to talk about bioblitzes, but otherwise I might just sit in a corner and make graphs.

Yesterday's Pilar Point Blitz was swell. A great showing of Nerds. Just when we say we don't want "Blitz Overload" to occur, cool to watch Newbies iNating their way through seaweed-covered rocks.

What would it take to get some of you to travel outside the Bay Area for a project involving drones and submersibles?

That might be possible. Can you attend Project Night tomorrow to talk?
