Free screening of Alien Resurrection. Was it the Beta version of Firefly?

In A.R. and Firefly they were both the experiment that got away from a heartless government.                                                           I’m just saying.

The first movie Joss Whedon wrote was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. . He did not like that version. It was movie writing credits like Alien Resurrection and Toy Story that made Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the series) possible.

Sadly I now can't make this. I have a friend in hospice and need to help out. Hope to hear all about it at our next meetup!

All the "debate" about AR and Firefly has made me curious, so now I have to attend, and then offer my '2-cents' opinion :->

Look no one is saying that AR Inspired Firefly and certainly not that the movie was better than Firefly. But if you look carefully at a movie like AR And the cartoon movie Titan AE, both if which Whedon had a hand in crafting the story, you can see the beginnings of some of elements that are featured in Firefly. Look past the plot and look at how the characters are portrayed and how they interact with each other.

And what we are trying to say is Firefly is not AR 2.0; but that in AR you can see the ideas forming in Whedon's mind as to the shape of what was to become Firefly. I think AR and Titan AE shows the visual and setting ideas Whedon was thinking about when he was putting together sci fi in his head. He's not the only storyteller to do this. Look At Terry Gillian and the Movies Brazil and 12 Monkeys. Look at Cameron and Aliens and Avatar. I think Cameron's example fits better because he took elements he made from a commercial movie and used it for a more personal project. And even though they are not directly tied both aliens and Avatar share alot of themes Cameron focuses on; shoot Cameron had to make changes to Avatar so that people wouldn't accuse him of copying from Aliens TOO much (IE Michael Bean was supposed to play Sully, but he feared with Weaver already cast in a lead role it would look and feel too much like Aliens).

Seriously?? It's an insult to Firefly to even remotely compare the stinker that is Alien Resurrection to it.

Hm, in no way do I see similarities between those two. Maybe Dollhouse? Maybe? Or Afterlife? Or even Buffy, but not really Firefly.

      I'm talking character, not theme.

OMG I though I was the only one who noticed. I always thought you could see the kernels of Firefly in Alien Resurrection and Titan AE.

Alot of the Firefly characterization can be seen in Alien Res. As well as in titan AE. Just look at how the characters portray themselves you will see Firefly in no time.
