We remember the "good old days:" when Saturday Morning Cartoons were worth getting up early for, when you could play outside all day without your parents worrying that you were going to get kidnapped, when having a game system attached to your television was rare and new. We remember when records and cassettes were the only way to buy music, the first CD we ever bought, we had boomboxes and made mix tapes off of what was playing on the radio. We remember when the internet started, the sound of the modem as it dialed in, many of us with multiple online handles for various BBS's and IRC channels, when Mosaic was the only browser and web crawler was the search engine. We read adult novels in junior high because there was no such thing as a Young Adult section other than Sweet Valley High or Nancy Drew or The Hardy Boys or The Babysitter's Club or Fear Street or anything by Christopher Pike.
Now, of course, we're all cleverly disguised as responsible adults who are still a bit off from the rest of the world because of our interests leaning more towards the geeky/dorky/nerdy category. We still remember not quite fitting in in the "good old days" and are generally more accepting of people's quirks than the "popular crowd" in high school.
This group is dedicated to giving people a place to let their inner Nerd/Geek/Dork Flag fly high.
Our events will range from the seriously nerdy (like Nerd Nite and Dorkbot and Tabletop Gaming and arcades and watching eSports), to just a bunch of good hearted people hanging out with others that won't mind a random quote from some television show or some other moment of not bothering to hide our Whovian/Joss Fanatic/gamer/Trekkie/comic book fan/Jedi Knight membership card.
So, join us. Laugh, talk, have a good time and, if nothing else, Geek out with your Beak out!
INVITATION by Shel Silverstein
If you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer...
If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
