Founded in December of 2011, Nerdy Girls is a diverse collective of women working to "craft" a more fabulous community through personal, social and creative enrichment. We are a not for profit organization based in Oklahoma City, OK.
As our group continues to flourish and grow, we start to understand how much more we can do to enhance the community. Oklahoma is in a period of reinvention. Our state is becoming increasingly diverse due to our low cost of living and comparatively good job market. I meet someone nearly every day who has recently moved to Oklahoma from another state. This is a blessing because they are bringing with them the knowledge and culture of their former communities and providing some much needed insight on how Oklahoma can grow. The downtown revitalization efforts, the plaza district's artistic boom, and all the new restaurants and shops around the Oklahoma City metro are key indicators of a shift in local attitudes.
What Nerdy Girls offers is a welcoming presence for Oklahoma newcomers as well as a way to bring long-term residents with mutual interests together. We also offer access to affordable adult learning opportunities previously unobtainable for many. We would very much like an opportunity to expand the latter, offering classes in areas such as art, design, craftsmanship, business, and technology. We believe there is a great need for more affordable, non-formal education opportunities for adults, particularly adult women.
We very greatly support the national effort to get more women involved in technical fields and have adopted this as one of our missions. Our most recent step in the direction of achieving these goals has been to establish our community website. This website will allow us to form more effective collaborations with each other and the public and allow us the opportunity to reach more prospective members. Thank you for your support!
