Etsy: Doing business with a conscience

Etsy started in 2005 and has grown rapidly with the Etsy community generating 895 million dollars in revenue in 2012 along with changing the world for good! At this month's #net2melb Kirsteene Phelan -Etsy Australia's Marketing and Communications Manager- will discuss how scale and profit need to not disrupt vision and values and the challenges faced by tech companies who care.

Etsy was recently certified a "B Corporation" - a certification for companies that are redefining success in business. Mele-Ane Havea from impact investment firm Small Giants, the first B Corporation in Australia will explain what it means to be "B corp certified" and how you can join the growing number of Australia companies seeking certification.

The Plan...

6:00 pm Drinks and mingling

6:30pm Presentation

7: 15pm Questions

Meet-up hashtag: #net2melb

$10 entry will cover wine and snacks.

More about Kirsteene

Kirsteene Phelan spent her early career in film and music before jumping into running her own handmade jewellery business, the super cute Scrumptious Productions, from 2007 - 2011.

The label grew from a small market stall to being retailed in 90 outlets across Australia and New Zealand quickly.

A chance meeting with some talented Etsy employees led to Kirsteene being hired as Etsy’s Australian Community Manager - the company’s first hire in the Southern Hemisphere.

Fast forward a year and this team is now a group of five. Kirsteene now directs the local communications and partnership marketing efforts for Etsy.

More about Mele-Ane

Mele-Ane is the Director of Portfolio & Projects at Small Giants and provides strategy and management support across the Small Giants portfolio of businesses and leads a number of the wonderful projects happening at SG.  After working for some years as a corporate lawyer (in Melbourne and Abu Dhabi) and in community and human rights law (in Kunnunurra and the Netherlands), Mele-Ane went on to complete an MBA (at Oxford as an Associate Fellow at the Skoll Centre). Mele-Ane then followed her heart to this dream job… where she couldn’t be happier!
