Where to for Sydney-NetSquared-Meetup Group?

Hi everybody

You’ll have heard last week from Patrick that he has to bale from the organiser's role with the group because of work commitments. (Thanks Patrick for taking the lead and getting the Group off the ground last year when the rest of us were sitting on our hands!)

It’s been a while since the Group met and in the meantime, there’s a lot of other activity developed in the social media/social change/social innovation space.

However going back the Group’s home page and re-reading the statement of purpose, it reads “connecting 3rd sector NGOs and not-for-profits to talk about technology and working better with the free and inexpensive tools at our disposal”.

That’s something that nobody else is really doing in Sydney.

I’m currently planning presentations on digital storytelling and the uses of social media to community sector events I’m helping to organise where I work in outer-Western Sydney.

I’m also working with some colleagues to develop a Ning-based community for sector workers and others to share stories about community initiatives that have an impact. The emphasis in those stories will be on new business models and technologies but we don’t want to be too exclusionary when we’re just starting off! (We know enough about community development online to know the community will eventually define most of the parameters!)

If people are interested in discussions about these sorts of projects and possibilities, I’d love to hear more.

I am willing to take an organiser’s role for the group but only if there’s enough interest and commitment from people for whom such a group could make a real difference.

I look forward to hearing from people.
