The power of networking is fueling a learning revolution. chalkle° is taking a new approach that matches willing teachers with keen students. Co-fonder Silvia Zuur will be sharing how chalkle° has flourished in Wellington in its first year and how it is currently expanding to work with other communities around New Zealand.
Within chalkle° anyone can be a teacher, and classes are offered without the need to no long-term commitment. Each course offers practical, real-life and creative skills
Classes currently offered include funding applications made easy, how to use bitcoin, hand and foot massage, ukele and hypno-a-go-go! chalkle° has been awarded a 2012 Dynamic Community Learning Award, and were named Absolutely Positively Wellingtonians in June 2013.
Chalkle° enables anyone interested to create their own unique lifelong learning path, share passions, or even curate a community learning channel.
Session notices, notifications, RSVPs, and other aspects of organisation are administered through Meetup (which we use for #net2welly meetups too).
Silvia Zuur co-founded chalkle° in Wellington in July 2012. She previously worked for an international youth organisation focusing on mentoring young people to find their initiative in the world, through designing and organising conferences and workshops in Europe and USA. She also worked closely with the Youth Initiative Program and volunteered in Benin, West Africa. Back in Wellington she got swept into the Enspiral ecosystem where she co-founded chalkle° - a platform that facilitates new forms of education through connecting people online so that they can learn offline. She recently organised the Social Enterprise Conference and is currently organising UX Design Day.
