Almost 5 years (minus a 6 month gap)
I wore my hair natural for 4 years before I broke down and got a chemical texturizer then an all out perm. I started to become frustrated at the amount of time it was taking to grow in my twist out styles. It was also difficult because my husband wants my hair to be long and permed. He doesn't even care if it is short and permed, as long as it is not "nappy". For his birthday, I got a perm. That only lasted 6 months. I missed having natural hair and I just had to be me. So now I am starting all over with a TWA.
I had always admired women who were natural, because I saw it as a symbol of strength and self esteem. Finally I decided to display my strength, and to let go of some of the "baggage" I had been carrying with me. I actually stood in front of the mirror and cut off my permed hair to reveal the Patty that God had created.
I have lived in Baltimore 32 years (I will be 35 in November)
Hello Everyone!!! My name is Patty and I am a wife and mother of two (5 and 3 yo). I look forward to gathering with others and to learn more about caring for my natural hair.
