The Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local programs that provide breast health education, screening and treatment programs for medically under-served women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world. Susan G. Komen is the largest non-governmental funder of breast cancer research in the world, with over $4 million in current research grants at Vanderbilt.
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever, and in 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Greater Nashville Affiliate is part of the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer. Through year-round fundraising efforts the Greater Nashville Affiliate has invested over $3.6 million in community breast cancer programs in 11 counties in the past 12 years.
