Torchlight procession Son et Lumière and fireworks finale. Edinburgh.

  • December 30, 2013 · 7:00 PM

This is spectacular....Meet in Central Edinburgh around 6pm, and afterwards go for a wee drink and or bite to eat or anything else that takes your fancy...or fish and chips if Ross is coming.

I'm going to try and get to the Guilford Arms around 6pm, so I have time for a drink before heading off for the procession (I'm a slow drinker), I will go to the bar first so if anyone's already there keep an eye out for me.

    December 30

    • Lesley

Hi Gregor - not sure I will recognise you so please look out for me too. I will be wearing a black coat with a vibrant pinkypurple scarf. Will aim to get to Guildford Arms 6.15ish.... Hope this rain goes off soon!

Can't face it in this weather, especially as I've been sick since before Christmas. Hope it brightens up and you all have a ball...then perhaps I'll be wishing I'd gone. Have a great night.

    December 30

    • Lesley

thanks santosh - you are being very wise but it won't be as sparkling without you. Take care and see you soon xx

I'm calling off as was unwell yesterday. Disappointed to do so but hopefully we can go to next year's event. Hope you all enjoy it - looks like it should be a bit drier later anyway.

    December 30

  • Lesley

    December 29

    • mel s.

Hi...I'm not a local so I'll be looking for you guys at Waverly!

      December 29

  • Jean H.

Hi, ill be at Waverly around 6.30, will make my way to The Guilford Arms. I know Linda Craig, Maureen and Alan, so i'll look out for you!!! Have got my torch!

    December 28

    • Susan

Makes sense for those of us getting the train to meet at the station - 6.30 at Wh Smith was mentioned - this is opposite Boots.
Perhaps anyone who wants to meet at the station can say so and then we will know who to look out for.
It looks like there are trains from both sides of the fife circle that arrive just before 6.30 so this seems a good time. We can then head to the pub to meet the rest of the group.

      December 28

    • Jean H.

That sounds like a plan! See you and others at Waverly, 6.30 at WHSmith.

      December 28

  • Bryce G.

Hey guys, I am now unable to go to this event as work has called me in so I do hope everyone has a awesome new years celebrations. Take care and stay safe.

I've got tickets for torches, this is the info that came with them.... Collect torches from 2 pm before joining procession on George IV bridge at 7 pm. Hopefully see some of you there if you also have torches!

    December 28

  • Win S.

OK CU all at The Guildford (which I know) subject to storms it looks as if it may be wet but not windy
Look forward to seeing you all

    December 28

  • mel s.

Please read the info on the link at the top of this page.
We can then meet up in the Guildford arms afterwards and find each other for a drink etc. Any further suggestions post here... Wrap up warm, bring a tipple - this is an outdoor event and the Meetup organiser takes no responsibility if you get cold ;-)

    December 28

  • mel s.

OK folks, subject to no storms!! I will be arriving at Edinburgh Waverley at 6.10pm, then heading to the Guildford Arms on West Register Street, just off Princes Street (3 minutes walk from station) - see link/map
    http://www.guildfordarms.com/co...
At 7 o'clock we will head to the Duke of Wellington statue, (facing North Bridge) and may even be able to stand on the steps behind it to get a good view of the procession coming towards us.
With 30+ of us it may be difficult to all meet up so make sure you have a buddy unless you would rather be on your own! The idea is to walk alongside the front of the procession so we stand a chance of getting onto Calton Hill to see the fireworks. With 35,000 people expected there is an "overflow" viewing area on Waterloo Place.

    December 28

  • Cal N.

Looks good. Hip flask at the ready!

    December 27

    • David M.

      whisky please Cal......

      December 27

  • Ross S.

Well, as it is an Edinburgh "jolly outing" it is more "tradition" to have a few beers on the train (and it will be very cold so maybe a wee something to keep you warm for a few hours?)...I'll aim to be on the kdy/edn train at 1748 for 1826 arrival...going home how knows but trains every half hour or so and last one 2308.

This is a great event and awesome photo opportunity....Dave if I'm meeting you at 1830 "under the clock" can you where a red rose and have some flowers (thinking of del boy now!)

    December 27

  • Janet M.

ditto Denise's question. Has anyone organised/ thought about transport from KDY? Car, train.....:)

    Merry Christmas everybudy!

    xxxxxxx

I bought mine thru the link.

      December 22

    • mel s.

I wasn't going to get one Leona. I was planning to join the procession along the route so we get a good position for the fireworks...but feel free to if you want, just don't burn Ross's pom pom!

      December 23

  • gregor

oops!- on further reading it's only the torches you have to buy, which sell out, it seems the actual event is free.

    December 15

    • mel s.

Yep its a free event Gregor...I will put some details up about meeting etc next week.

      December 16

  • gregor

I just realised, should we be buying our tickets for this already? I was just on the site and it said they sell out each year?
