Night Float

Night floating offers all the joys of floating the Comal without the crowds. We can picnic and air up the tubes before heading out on the water. The park can still be quite crowded at this time, so to avoid space and table fee issues, we'll just "rough it" and picnic on the ground. Bring dinner or snacks (to share or just for yourself) and a picnic blanket. The trick to parking at Prince Solms...if you don't find a spot the first time around, just keep circling and watch for people leaving. I usually find a spot the second or third time around.

Bring your own tube. Outfitters don't rent in the evening. You can get tubes at Wal-mart for less than it costs to rent! I'll have a pump and extra batteries. And I'll have lots of glow sticks for peeps and pups. We'll put in about 8:30.

There are 3 shoots on the Comal... the big tube shoot at Prince Solms, a little one at Stinky Falls, and a medium one at Schlitterbahn. You don't have to take your dog through the shoots...I get out and walk around them.

We'll get out at the Coll/Market St. exit (you're welcome to continue floating to the last public exit if you choose). From there, the walk back to the parking lot is less than 10 minutes and is an easy street walk. I suggest wearing shoes that can get wet but are comfortable to walk in.

Do you have to have a tube? I don't have one and I am not sure if I can swing by the store after work to get one.

      Is one required?

Not sure what you mean? You can swim without a tube if you and your dog are strong enough swimmers. If you're asking if the river is shallow enough to walk the whole way...no, there are deep parts. If you're asking if the city requires that you use a tube in the water...no, you are free to swim.

For the record, I will just be bringing myself to this event. Unfortunately my dogs don't fit in floats...well my schnauzer could, but I don't feel up to grooming him after. Haha

I'd love to come out, but not sure how Chewy is with the water running still, and I will have just come back from a business trip in France...so will most likely be jetlagged. :-(
