Digital Concepts : RAW format, ISO, Noise, and Histograms

This free classroom session will provide valuable insight into the technology behind four very important aspects of digital image capture. You will learn what is contained in a RAW image file, how ISO is implemented in the digital world, what causes noise and ways to minimize it at capture time, and how on-camera histograms are built and how to interpret them. A conceptual understanding of the underlying digital technology will enable you to make better and more informed choices in the field to obtain maximum image quality. It is suggested that you bring your camera and a small lens (e.g. 24-70 or[masked]) to class.

NOTE : This classroom session is sponsored by The Photographic Society of Parker River National Wildlife Refuge but the public is welcome to attend.

BE AWARE THAT ATTENDANCE IS STRICTLY LIMITED BY THE CAPACITY OF THE AUDITORIUM AND IS ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS! THERE IS NO PRE-REGISTRATION AVAILABLE.

This Meetup was outstanding and extremely informative. Wish I could go to the next Meetup regarding Manual Photography, however, I previously signed up for Mass Audubon's Bird Banding Program.

The class was excellent! Mike presented a great deal of information very clearly and concisely. The length of the class was just about right--long enough to cover everything pretty well, but not so long that we went away feeling overloaded. Though, of course, he could easily fill a three-hour class with each of the individual topics presented today!

Sorry, Liz ... I just saw your message now ... hope you were able to make it this morning. I've got to figure out if there is a way to set things up so I get notified when someone posts a message.

I was disappointed I had to cancel last minute... something unexpected came up. I hope everyone had a great time... and got some great pics! I feel so lucky I live and work in the area, so I am able to enjoy the beauty all year round. The Piping Plovers have shut down most of the Reserve... but we are all looking forward to seeing the chicks in a few months! I hope to make the next meet-up!

Thank you very much Michael; I thought your talk was very well done. It answered a lot of questions I had and gave just enough to think about the next time I'm out shooting without being overwhelming.

Hey all, I am planning to stay there and as well use the outing for taking more pictures.(weather permitting) The raptors are migrating now and should get some cool pictures. I was there last week but it was too windy for birds sustaining flight I guess, so did not see too much activity... Also FYI, the admission to the park is 5 bucks. See you all there!

One more question. If the weather holds up, is anyone planning to spend any time at the refuge to take pictures of wildlife?

I am not sure of the exact number of seats, but I do know the auditorium is not extremely large... We can call the center and ask. Early birds get the worms! :)

The refuge places a strict limit of 75 on all events in the auditorium. The building should be open around 8 AM. See you Saturday!
