I feel like I am a fairly experience hiker. My hardest hike was Mt Jefferson but only because it was mid-oct and the last mile was cold, misty, and icy. I have taken small groups of friends hiking.
My favorite trail adventure was on South Moat in late June last year. I had a good morning hiking and on the way down I came upon a black bear eating some berries beside the trail. As the trail bent toward the bear I watched it for a bit, then made some noise and scared it off. My greatest challenge might have been Frankenstein Cliffs in the late fall. I went to Arethusa Fall and hiked over to the cliffs. The trail down the cliffs was covered with wet oak and beech leaves. It was a slow descent with few slides but nervewracking. Despite that it was a great day and the views were fabulous.
Only spring, summer, and fall. I do have crampons, snowshoes, and X-country skis but I have never hiked in the winter. I would be interested in winter hiking.
Yes, the 4000 footers.
My schedule varies from week to week and I often have my days off during the week.
I am a 56 year old hiker. Love the outdoors. I have been hiking the 4000 footers but like any good hike.
I thought the meetup was great as were the people and I hope to be able to go on more hikes in the future.
