I am an experienced hiker. Hardest hike: probably the West Coast Trail, BC (5-night, solo), I've informally organized/led group hikes and backpack trips with friends.
I did a solo 2 night backpack trip in Denali. The greatest challenge was staying warm. I almost ended the trip after one night because the weather was so wet and cold and my tent pole had broken so I needed to jury rig a splint for it. But I decided to stay out one more night and was rewarded the next morning with amazing views of Denali, a fresh layer of snow on everything, and the beginning of the sand hill crane migration. I love hiking/skiing with my dog and especially love LONG day hikes.
I hike all seasons, but in the winter I am more inclined to be hiking with my 'bush whacking', cross country skis. I have back-country/telemark, cross country, and skate skis, skijoring equipment (and wanna-be sled dog), snow shoes, hiking boots and shoes, traction devices, backpacking equipment (pack, tent, compass, altimeter, etc.).
In general, I am not a goal oriented hiker. I just like to get out there and soak in my surroundings. I like long expeditions and would like to do a long (>month) hike or canoe/kayak trip someday.
I'm not sure of my schedule yet.
Hi! I recently moved to Maine from Oregon and love to hike, cross/back-country ski, and skijor with my dog. I'm looking forward to exploring the northeast and meeting others who like non-motorized outdoor activities.
