At our most recent Magento Meetup meeting on Jan. 14, some members said the notes from the last meeting in December were not received. I'm resending below, with apologies if you've already discovered all these hot tips on the message board!
Joe Woods, One Pica
, and Barbara Thornton, DesignerShoes.com
moderated a wide ranging discussion with meeting participants.
New members, Herb Osher
and Dan Their
l from ConversionsOnDemand.com
described their sales generating software products that can be used on magento and made some SPECIAL DISCOUNT OFFERS
- Cart Closer helps reduce cart abandonment.
- Time 2 Buy shows time limited special offers based on customer's browsing behavior.
- Daily Deal Bar offers a discounted daily special.
Each product normally includes free installation and a 30 day free trial. Herb Osher is offering New England Magento Meetup folks an additional two months with 10% off when they use the code NEMM. Call Herb at [masked].
We love it when New England Magento Meetup members offer the membership these special deals! More offers? Let us know!
Discussion continued with members speculating about the future of Magento. Some merchants expressed concern about how hard it is to find good developers. Some developers expressed concern that it is hard to get traction on "Magento Connect". Will Magento's success be hurt if merchants don't find userful extensions or developers can't get their products in front of Magento using merchants? There was a consensus that using search engines, like Google, to search for extensions is, currently, the best approach.
Joe Woods also suggested searching for and following some of the good Magento content bloggers, MagentoSEO, MAGE, Webshopapps, Mageworld, Mageworks, etc.
to find the influential people in the magento marketplace. Janet Anthos suggested she had good luck searching for Magento in LinkedIn.
We shared a hot tip (available to those who come to the meeting) about a reliable Magento web developer.
We discussed the choices about upgrading now vs. waiting for 2.0 this spring. 2.0 will make it easier to add extensions but it will be radically different in structure from the current Magento.
Joe Woods led us through a presentation of some of the new sites One Pica is developing, including BulkReef Supply and RacingThe Planet.
Tal Achituv recommended the customer relationship tool Kampyle.com.
Next meeting: January 14, Monday, 6:30 PM at Microsoft NERD Center, One Memorial Drive, CambridgeTal promises to bring beer!
