VERY STRENUOUS HIKE-MOUNTS FIELD AND AVALON

This group is for hikers aged 50-70+ (most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy, moderate, strenuous, very strenuous.A HIKE WHICH IS MODERATE IN THE SUMMER,IS STRENUOUS IN THE WINTER.NO COTTON CLOTHING IN THE WINTER. We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than  this group.  Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a WINTER HIKING GEAR LIST. This is a dog free hiking group.Everybody must join the group and have a picture to be on a hike.If you are camera shy, print out a picture of yourself and give it to me at the trailhead. The picture is to show Fish and Game if you get separated from the group.

This was the snowiest hike I've done so far this spring. An excellent hike. The views were splendid.

Thanks for a great hike Steve. Although it wasn't one of my better days I enjoyed being outdoors with my fellow hikers.

After sorting the parking issues,we started on what turned out to be a very snowy, and cold hike up. After Avalon, when some of us put on snowshoes, it became much easier to deal with all the up! Very pretty trail with all the snow on the the trees.. Fun sliding down!
Great company for this challenging hike, thanks Steve

Thanks Lyon, I received your message. Are you near the River Exit, Market Basket parking lot. (Across Chunky's Movie theater) Would 7:30am work?

Love to hike! I need to car pool. Is anyone coming from the Newburyport area?

    Hello Everyone!
I would like to hike, but I don't know if you need special gear for foot wear. I have Crampons, that I can bring, but do not have any snow shoes.
Also, I was wondering if I could car pool with you Lyon. I could meet you close to 495/ Haverhill, because I would be coming from Newburyport.
