STRENUOUS HIKE - MOUNT JEFFERSON

This group is for hikers aged 50-70+(most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time.Hike ratings:easy, moderate, strenuous, very strenuous. We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group,(Fellowship of the Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than this group. Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a Summer Hiking Gear List. This is a dog free hiking group.Everybody must join the group to be on a hike.

Trailhead:NOTE THE 9AM START TIME! Take I93 north to exit 35,take US3 north, make a right onto US302,make a left onto Cog Railway Base Road, make a left onto Jefferson Notch Road,Caps Ridge Trail Parking Lot on right. The group will hike the Caps Ridge Trail to the summit of Mount Jefferson (5712'). Above treeline hiking for one half of the hike, summit views of the Presidentials. This is a steep and rough trail with numerous ledges that require rock scrambling. 5 miles round trip,2700 feet elevation gain, AMC booktime 4.5 hours, 7 hours estimated time for our group. ---Steve----

Had great fun scrambling up rocks and trying to keep up with the 3 billygoats up front! Liked the clouds and stark landscapes. Made new friends and have growing appreciation of old -- especially our two excellent leaders Tom and Steve.

I carry a SPOT Tracker on most hike and try to remember to hit the OK button at different parts of the hike. It send the current GPS location via satellite, letting my family know everything is good (or not). If people are interested, you can see the last 7 days of these locations (including yesterday's hike) at the web URL below (password[masked]).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
