This group is for hikers 50-70+(most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy,easy/moderate, moderate, advanced moderate,moderate/strenuous, strenuous, very strenuous. On the home page,if you click on the PAGES button there is a hike rating system which explains the wait list.

We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. If you think you may not be able to keep up with the group, do not carpool. Since this hike has 2 subgroups and a distinct meetup for each, please RSVP only to the hike you are comfortable hiking with (faster or slower). We expect people to stay with their group for the entire hike.

There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than  this group.  Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a Summer Hiking Gear List. This is a dog free hiking group. Everybody must join the group and have a picture up to be on a hike.

Difficulty finding the trailhead!!!!! Finally found it on my way back- the cars parked on the side of the road by 10:45 gave it away. Anyway I hiked most of the way up and back. Sorry I missed you all! Next time I will give myself more than 10mins to spare!

People on the wait list should not show up unless they are moved to attending. If people drop out, then the next person on the waitlist will be moved to attending and receive an email from

I'm not sure how the waitlist works. Do people on the waitlist still show up for the hike and maybe hike together?

NOTE: There are 2 diff meetup hikes for this hike. Please signup for the meetup that fits your level faster or slower! Both will start about the same time.

This is the slower subgroup will probably hike at our normal pace of about 1.5x AMC book time.
