MODERATE HIKE - MOUNT MAJOR

This group is for hikers 50-70+(most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy,easy/moderate, moderate, advanced moderate,moderate/strenuous, strenuous, very strenuous. On the home page,if you click on the PAGES button there is a hike rating system which explains the wait list.

We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. If you think you may not be able to keep up with the group, do not carpool.

There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than  this group.  Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a Summer/Winter Hiking Gear List. This is a dog free hiking group. Everybody must join the group and have a picture up to be on a hike.

Trailhead: Take I93 North to Exit 20,take US3 North, take NH11 East toward Alton, turn right into the parking lot at the Mount Major trailhead highway sign. We will be hiking the Mount Major Trail to the summit of Mount Major (1,780'). Expansive views of Lake Winnipesaukee from the summit.  4.8 miles round trip,1,150' elevation gain, AMC book time 3.0 hours,4.5 hours estimated time for our group.---Marc---

Thanks to all who helped me clean-up my yard with the bon-fire. That has been on my to-do list for many years. Great time, good food, libations and company.

I wish we could have stayed for dinner, Deb, but I already had plans. If you decide you'd like to put up with us again some time, I'd be happy to make a crock pot of chili or something like that. Thank you for welcoming us into your home. It made the day extra special :)

I loved the hike . I do think we should spend only ten minutes at the summit and the leaders should be proactive getting everybody up and ready to descend. Hyperthermia comes quickly as I recently learned in Solo Wilderness First Aid.

Marc and Tom - thanks so much for today's lovely hike. The views of Lake Winnipesaukee were very pretty, and the chance to get in a hike before the impending storm was very much appreciated. We really have a great group of people. I am looking forward to the nice hike.

Deb - thank you so much for inviting us to your home after the hike. So generous and thoughtful of you. I'm so glad we were able to come by.

Marc - I think you should hire Clarice! She did a great job as your deputy today :)

Can't wait for the next hike!
