This is a STRENUOUS HIKE. The "wait list" rules will be in effect to insure a safe & enjoyable experience.

This group is for hikers 50-70+(most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy,easy/moderate, moderate, advanced moderate,moderate/strenuous, strenuous, very strenuous. On the home page,if you click on the PAGES button there is a hike rating system which explains the wait list.

We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. If you think you may not be able to keep up with the group, do not carpool. There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than  this group.  Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a Summer/Winter Hiking Gear List. This is a dog free hiking group. Everybody must join the group and have a picture up to be on a hike.

Trailhead: Take I-93 North to Exit 32, make left onto Kancamagus Highway (NH Route 112) travel 26 miles east, (past Bear Notch Road) to the Champney Falls Parking Lot on the right side of the road. We will hike the Champney Falls Trail to the summit of Mount Chocorua (3,475'). The summit is rocky and open with 360 degree views. 7.6 miles round trip, 2,250' elevation gain, AMC booktime 5 hours,7.5 hours estimated time for our group.----Marc----

I had a wonderful time, my favorite hike for the winter as I had my new Vasque boots on and they kept my feet warm! The caring and compassion of this group is so uplifting. I think the number of pictures show how much people enjoyed this trip!

Is this bridge closure still in effect and will if affect us:
I doubt the brook is frozen over based on my hike last week.

If you cant get across you can cross near the highway and cut through to the trail.
      Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The footbridge adjacent to the parking lot is gone. The brook is snowbridged at the moment. If hard to cross, one can cross the brook on the highway, then do a very short bushwhack to the trail. from newenglandtrails

I got on the hike today but, given the early morning hour, the drive, the duration of the hike, and the weather during the commute, I have decided to pass. I appreciate having gotten on the hike and having been offered the chance to carpool. I hope to see you guys soon. Have fun.

P.S. I tried posting this earlier, but it wouldn't take.

I've missed hiking with you guys the last couple of weeks. I am on the wait list for this one, but would need a ride in order to do it. I can meet someone at the Nashua Park & Ride at exit 8, or closer to home. (I live in Chelmsford). If anyone can help with a ride, please let me know. I can't go too long without a NEO50 hike :)
