ADV MODERATE HIKE--> WELCH AND DICKEY: PREREQ: ATTENDED OVER50 MODERATE HIKE

PREREQUISITE: MUST HAVE ATTENDED OVER 50 MODERATE HIKE.

THE WAITLIST RULES ARE IN EFFECT FOR THIS HIKE.

This group is for hikers 50-70+(most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy,easy/moderate, moderate, advanced moderate, moderate/strenuous, strenuous, very strenuous. On the home page, if you click on the PAGES button there is a hike rating system which explains the wait list. We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. If you think you may not be able to keep up with the group,do not car pool. There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than  this group.  Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If  you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a Summer/Winter Hiking Gear List. This is a dog free hiking group. Everybody must join the group and have a picture up to be on a hike.

Trailhead: Take I93 North to Exit 28, make a right onto NH49 East, travel about 5 miles and make a left onto Upper Mad River Road, make a right onto Orris Road. We will hike the trail counter clockwise over the summits of Welch (2,605') and Dickey (2,734'). 50% of the hike will have views, a rarity in the wooded Northeast. 4.4 miles round trip, 1,800' elevation gain, AMC book time 3 hours, 5.5 hours estimated time for our group. ----Marc----

I like those photos that Denise, Megan, and Kathy took. Especially the fog, the strange cloud shapes, and the views (and the happy hikers).

Welch and Dickey is always a nice hike and doing it with this group makes it even more fun. I'm sure going to miss the butt sledding 2 months from now when it's 80 degrees and the bugs are biting.
I figured out how to upload to youtube, and I think that you can see Marc and Megan's crash at the Flume here.

So sorry to cancel so late. I have a sore foot that's telling me it would not be a good idea to hike tomorrow. Hopefully an alternate will get to go. Have a great hike.
