STRENUOUS HIKE; TUCKERMAN'S; PREREQ: ATTENDED OVER 50 MOD STRENUOUS HIKE

STRENUOUS HIKE. PREREQUISITE: MUST HAVE ATTENDED OVER 50 MODERATE STRENUOUS HIKE.

NOTE: THIS HIKE IS CONTINGENT ON GOOD WEATHER & SUBJECT TO CANCELLATION IN THE EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER.

The "wait list" rules will be in effect to insure a safe & enjoyable experience; this hike will be limited to 20 hikers.

Our destination will be "Lunch Rocks" near the base of the "Bowl". Weather permitting the goal is to watch skiiers/snowboarders ski over the "headwall" & down "Tucks". This is a sight to marvel if you haven't witnessed it before.

This group is for hikers 50-70+(most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy,easy/moderate, moderate, advanced moderate,moderate/strenuous, strenuous, very strenuous. On the home page,if you click on the PAGES button there is a hike rating system which explains the wait list.

We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. If you think you may not be able to keep up with the group, do not carpool. There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than  this group.  Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a Summer/Winter Hiking Gear List. This is a dog free hiking group. Everybody must join the group and have a picture up to be on a hike.

TRAILHEAD: Pinknam Notch Visitor Center on Route 16. We'll meet on the deck of the visitor lodge. From the visitor center it's 2.1 miles to the Hermit shelter (HOJO'S) & another mile to Lunch Rocks. Plan on ~6 miles round trip. Hoping for a warmer day so we can have lunch & stay for a while in the viewing area. Plan on a 5-6 hour day. ---------Marc--------

Just a little heads up. Saturday is Inferno Day too and the area is always very busy. Last time I did Tucks on Inferno Day we arrived by 7:30 and they were already parking south on rte 16 at least a 1/2 mile away. Wildcat parking area is an option for parking but they are still skiing so not sure what their policy would be. Not many options available other than hoofing it for some distance to Pinkham. Have a good trip. Tucks this time of year is a real festive day and lots of fun.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
