MODERATE HIKE--> MT. ISRAEL

Weather Update:

The hike is still scheduled for Saturday May 17th but the start time is now 10:30am.

The forecast has improved during the last 24 hours.  The heavy rain is expected to end before the hike starts but a couple of showers are still expected while we are hiking.

Bring waterproof jacket and prepare for wet slippery conditions on the trail.

This group is for hikers 50-70+(most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy,easy/moderate, moderate, advanced moderate,moderate/strenuous, strenuous, very strenuous. On the home page,if you click on the PAGES button there is a hike rating system which explains the wait list.

We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. If you think you may not be able to keep up with the group, do not carpool

There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than  this group.  Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a Summer/Winter Hiking Gear List. This is a dog free hiking group. Everybody must join the group and have a picture up to be on a hike.

    Yes, Tabor, the caves were in the shadows. The water was really flowing yesterday, much more than when I saw the falls last November!!! It is a very short hike from where we parked!!!

    While we were eating our lunch on the rock summit, looking across the valley to the opposite mountains, we could see the pale velvet green quietly beginning it's march up the hillsides as the forests start their spring leaf-out. See Joanne's photos.
    I'll have to check out those tumbling waterfalls the next time. Is that the Cow Cave you were talking about, that Ken is in front of?
    Thanks for bringing your cameras, guys!

    Oh no! Something happened with my app. It showed a "yes" RSVP on a different event. When I changed it to "no", it changed this one. I'm still coming!

    Just got back from hiking to Mizpah Springs Hut, which was awesome, though icy at the top half. Don't see hiking all day in a downpour tomorrow though, as quite as nice. Will try again when the weather looks better.

    I agree, looking too wet and 90% humidity right now. I am going out for eve - hate to miss if weather changes, so will check back later on weather and group go - no go decision.

    Looking too wet for me...hope this hike gets rescheduled as it looks like a good one.

    Well, the good news is that, according to TWC right now, Center Sandwich will have heavy rain at 9:00 a.m., but only showers at 10:00 a.m., and down to a few showers at 1:00 p.m. I'm going to keep an eye on the forecast.

    Hi all - my ride cannot make it tomorrow. Can I hook up with someone going? I'm located near I89 and I93 intersections in Concord. Or, if it's not raining, I can bike down to LL Bean. Thanks.

    Me, too, if it's going to rain. I'll cancel now but will reassess if the forecast changes.

    I hiked this last Sunday, 27-Apr. No snow or ice until near the top, easy to get around. I bare-booted, no micro-spikes needed. Water crossings were easily stepped over. The summit has an awesome view of Sandwich Dome/Wilderness, totally worth a repeat hike.
