MODERATE HIKE-ARETHUSA FALLS AND FRANKENSTEIN CLIFFS

This group is for hikers 50-70+(most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy,easy/moderate, moderate, advanced moderate,moderate/strenuous, strenuous, very strenuous. On the home page,if you click on the PAGES button there is a hike rating system which explains the wait list.

We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. If you think you may not be able to keep up with the group, do not carpool.

There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than  this group.  Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a Summer Hiking Gear List. This is a dog free hiking group. Everybody must join the group and have a picture up to be on a hike.

Trailhead: Take I93 north to exit 35, take US3 north, make a right onto US302, go past AMC's Highland Center (bathrooms), the trailhead is 3.4 miles south of the Willey House Site in Crawford Notch State Park, make right at sign for the Falls, we will be parked at the end of the road by the railroad tracks. We will hike the Arethusa Falls and Frankenstein Cliffs Trails. The falls are the highest in the state (200') and the cliffs have good views from ledges. 4.7 miles round trip, 1400' elevation gain, AMC booktime 3 hours, 5 hours estimated time for our group.

Terrific hike, perfect weather. Kind of silly that we got lost in the last .1 mile of the hike! Fun day. Thanks Tom and Mark.

I am sorry to have to miss tomorrow, especially as I will be away much of the Summer for business. I will so look forward to rejoining the group as soon as possible. Have fun and enjoy the Falls!

Sorry not able to make this one. One of my favorite places too. Son and grandchildren are coming to visit this weekend! : ) can't wait till my grandchildren are old enough to go out to the falls!

Sorry I have to pull out of this one. I fell on rocks running up the hill before we even got to the trailhead at Moosilauke last weekend. It was my 10th 4K, so I wasn't going to let anything stop me, but I hurt my knee, so I am going to give it some rest. This sounds like such a pretty hike. I can't wait to see pictures.

Hi Terese, I live in Saco and just joined the group. I can't make this hike as I already have plans for the day but would be interested in carpooling in the future

Wow, that was fast. I looked at this hike and there were 6 spots left and in the few minutes it took me to google the location it was filled. I have been trying to join one of your hikes for over a year so far but no luck yet. I would love to go so please let me know by email if it open up and I get on. If not have fun and we will meet someday :)

I'd love to meet someone in Nashua or further north to ride up together. My trusty hiking friend Dave, who spoils me with door-to-door service, won't be attending this hike and it sounds too pretty to miss.

Is anyone carpooling from Manchester or Concord for this? Would love to catch a ride w/you.
