STRENUOUS HIKE-MT.LAFAYETTE; PREREQ: ATTENDED NEO50 MODERATE STRENUOUS HIKE

STRENUOUS HIKE. PREREQUISITE: MUST HAVE ATTENDED OVER 50 MODERATE STRENUOUS HIKE.

This is a STRENUOUS HIKE. The "wait list" rules will be in effect to insure a safe & enjoyable experience.

NOTE: THIS HIKE IS CONTINGENT ON GOOD WEATHER & SUBJECT TO CANCELLATION IN THE EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER.

This group is for hikers 50-70+(most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy,easy/moderate, moderate, advanced moderate,moderate/strenuous, strenuous, very strenuous. On the home page,if you click on the PAGES button there is a hike rating system which explains the wait list.

We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. If you think you may not be able to keep up with the group, do not carpool. There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than  this group.  Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a Summer/Winter Hiking Gear List. This is a dog free hiking group. Everybody must join the group and have a picture up to be on a hike.

Trailhead:

I-93 north to exit 34B, make left at bottom of exit ramp, go under I-93 and park in the south end of the Cannon Mountain Tramway parking lot. We will hike the Greenleaf Trail to the summit of Mt.Lafayette (5260'). We will stop @ the AMC Greenleaf hut for water refills & bio breaks. Above treeline hiking with views of Cannon Mountain and Mount Lincoln. 7.6 miles round trip, 8 hours estimated time. ---Marc----

I enjoyed the hike although it was very tiring! But I did hike Mt Flume and Liberty the next day with my son, and beat my previous time!!!

Surprisingly not even sore today. Sorry, but when I said I hike slow, it wasn't an attempt at modesty, I do hike slow. My genetics will not allow that to change. Great day overall! Thanks for the stimulating conversation. the planning effort and companionship!

Hello. I am backing out at the last minute. I rolled my ankle Wednesday night, I had hoped it might be ok to hike tomorrow. Sorry for the late notice. I really wanted to be a part of this hike :-(

I didn't sign up for this hike, but I'll be a party crasher tomorrow. :) See you tomorrow.

Does anyone know if we are doing the loop and bagging Lincoln and haystack while we are there or are we going back down the same trail we went up? Looks like there is only .4 of a mile difference between the two routes. Course, my map could be bogus but it seems like if we were robbing a bank and there were two banks side by side in the same strip mall with only some flimsy sheetrock in between.. we would hit the other bank while we were there... haha! See ya all tomorrow!

Based on the trail, mileage and parking area, it's not the Franconia Ridge loop hike, and there are no banks in the area. :)

I'm not sure whether or not I will be able to make it on Saturday, so I am going to cancel out of the hike, in case a wait list becomes available and someone else wants to get on the hike. If it turns out I am able to make it, I will let you know. Thanks.
