This group is for hikers aged 55-70+ who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time.Hike ratings:easy, moderate, strenuous, very strenuous. There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group,(Fellowship of the Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than this group. Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. This is a dog free hiking group. We start as a group, hike as a group, and finish as a group. Our pace will be that of the slowest hiker. This trip is not for you if you are faster than the group and do not want to stay with us,or if you want to head off on your own.

Trailhead: Take I93 north to exit 35,take US3 north, make a right onto US302,just past AMC's Highland Center (bathrooms) parking lot on right side of road opposite trailhead. We will hike the Webster-Jackson Trail,Webster Branch Trail and the Webster Cliff Trail to the Appalachian Trailhead on US302.Car spotting required.Good views from the summit of Webster and magnificent views descending on the Webster Cliff Trail. 5.8 miles round trip, 2,100' elevation gain, AMC booktime 4.0 hours, 7 hours estimated time for our group.----Steve ---- Disclaimer: As a condition of your voluntary participation in this activity you acknowledge and agree to the following: this activity involves inherent risks that can cause property damage, injury, illness, disability, and/or death to participants and/or others; you assume all risk associated with this activity; you are responsible for having the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities, clothing, and equipment to safely participate in this activity; you know and will follow the Hiker Responsibility Code described at; the leader(s) of this activity are volunteers; and you release, hold harmless, and indemnify the leader(s) and all members of this group from any and all claims for property damage, injury, illness, disability, and/or death - including those caused by negligence and/or other reasons.

I really wanted to go, but life got in the way. I'm going out on Sunday instead to Black Mountain (Benton Range, WMNF) in the western whites on the next day Sunday, 8/19. The trail passes a 19thC lime kiln, a rare biodiversity area, and will be rated moderate. Steve will post the event shortly. This is NOT to replace this W-J trip; it is entirely separate.

Unless we get rain out again I planned on stopping at Concord's exit 14 on Saturday morning I'll try to be there by 7:00-7:15 AM. to see if you want to or others might want to arrange a carpool.
