  • In fair Stafford do we set our scene. Once again, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth has chosen to grace the town of Stafford with her presence. Baron Stafford, the lord of these lands, must find a way to host the Queen, and her court, and their servants, and their servant’s servants, and their animals, and their families. The food costs alone would turn him into a pauper. Yet, a visit from the Queen and her court would be good for the growing businesses of Stafford. A solution is delivered: levy a tax upon the people of Stafford to pay for the Queen’s visit. After all, a visit from the Queen is in their best interests, the people should be happy to pay for her.

The task of establishing and collecting the tax has fallen to the Sheriff. He has been authorized to use any means necessary to collect the taxes, pay for the Queen’s visit, and ensure that Baron Stafford’s coffers are not completely emptied. Sometimes, the Sheriff becomes a bit overzealous in his pursuit of the dollar, but, after all, it is for everyone’s greater good.

A lone member of the town has reasoned that the Sheriff is levying an illegal task. When words fail to persuade the Sheriff to alter his course, the town hero must take up the sword to fight for what is right.

Nothing is certain except for death and taxes . . .

    The Details:

We'll be carpooling up there and back. It's about an 1 - 1.5 hour drive (this means we will arrive at the Faire around 10:15AM if we leave at 9AM) and admission is $9 at the door. Please make sure to bring cash (there is an ATM there) and please leave your pets at home.

This Faire goes on every weekend May 11 - June 9 so if you are  unable to come with us, you are still free (and encouraged) to spend a day there. They have things like jousting, story telling, magicians, and plenty of food, beer, and mead. Hope to see you all there!!

Car Pooling - if you would like to car pool please indicate that you want to and if you want to be a driver or not. You always have the option of meeting us there at your leisure as well.

We will meet at Erika's House at 8:45AM (an e-mail with an address and directions will be sent out prior to the event). From there, everyone is more than welcome to leave their car in the parking lot for the day and we can leave for Ye Olde Faire!

    What we recommend you bring:

    • Cash - many of the vendors do not take plastic; the food is between $3 and $10 and the alcohol is around $7 (I believe). These are the prices I remember from last year; they are subject to change.
    • Bug spray - this is in a field during the spring. There will be bugs; we don't want you to be eaten alive.
    • Sunscreen - this is a completely outside event with little shade (which is why we're opting to do it earlier in the spring time).
    • Sunglasses - see above
    • Renaissance Attire - Dress up if you'd like!!!! There are always costume shops that are renting out costumes and such. The actors at the event and we would LOVE seeing you in Renaissance gear.
    • A camera - we love pictures! Please feel free to take as many as you would like!
    • Bottle of water/snack for the ride up and back - although they do not allow you to bring in your own food/beverages, it is an hour drive. Feel free to bring water and/or snacks on the ride (please make sure to approve this with your driver)
    • Comfortable shoes - there aren't many places to sit and we'll be walking around a lot, heels might not be the best choice.
    • Your cell phone - this is in case the group gets separated; we wouldn't want to leave anyone behind.
