North Footies Praxis

This is a 4 hour praxis that will including mountain biking, trekking, and orienteering in a rogaine format.   You will have the freedom to choose your route and checkpoints.  There will be far more CP's than anyone can possibly acquire in the time allowed so don't expect to clear the course.  Each CP will have a point value based on its distance and difficulty.  Your objective is to accumulate as many points as possible within the four hour period.  This format rewards strategy and route selection over speed and endurance so be sure to spend a little time on developing your strategy once you have all the points plotted.

Soloist are welcome but you are encouraged to participate as a team.   Only members that have paid their annual dues are allowed to participate.

Congratulations to Steve and Angela who grabbed the top spot on the podium by obtaining 595 of the 1000 points. You two crushed it. They were closely followed by Keith at 570 and Kim and Carlos at 565. We will have to do this 'race' again later in the year as a 6 hour to see if someone can clear it. Hope to see you all at the next one in Corrales on Aug. 9.

One thing I forgot to add: All maps will be pre-plotted. You will not need a UTM grid to plot points.

Shouldn't the finish be at 12p for a 4 hour event starting at 8a? Just saying ... :-)

    • Jeff E

Thanks. I had originally intended to make this a 5 hour event but then decided to offer two different length options. Unfortunately, nobody took me up on my offer for a 6 hour option.

I'd like to add another person to tomorrow's Praxis - Rob Sengebush. He's a Club member, but somewhat suspicious about the safety/security of communicating via Meetup. So, please add him the the event roster. Thanks.

If you like you can update your RSVP with a +1 but it's not that important as it looks like we'll have some extra spots. Just be sure you forward him the final communication I'll be sending out via email later this evening.

I'm feeling left out on all this awesome AR action - I may have to come out of my self imposed pseudo retirement to host my own Praxis and watch you all knock yourselves out silly on my course. 8^) Hmm, where is there a nice deep culvert to hide a CP in?

      Can I bring my dog?

      May 15

    • Jeff E

There are no Abq Open Space restrictions on dogs (other than a leash requirement) but you'll be on your mountain bike for most of the race. That won't make it easy to bring a dog along.

KJ got one more CP then Jeff E at the Placitas Praxis Pepto-Bismol event? Are there any results posted anywhere? If not, shoot them to me and I'll post them here at the meetup site

Don't be silly...I tied a long string to my car and held onto it so I can find my way back.

      May 15

  • Steve Keith, that was just for you. And that was for getting one more checkpoint than Eichman :)

Hi. I'm new to the group, but am looking forward the the race on Saturday. Can I pay on race day. I'm in shape but haven't oriented in a couple of years. How important is it to have a team?

    1 · May 11

    • Jeff E

Welcome to the club. We won't be collecting membership dues on Saturday. The links on this page will allow you to pay dues via a credit card prior to the praxis. Only a few checkpoints will present a navigation challenge. If you have just basic map reading skills you will do just fine at this event. We do encourage all members to complete as a team since AR is generally considered a team sport (and much more fun that way) but racing solo is fine if you can't find a teammate. See you Saturday.

I'm still talking to a few prospects for a 2 or 4 man team, but planning to attend one way or another. Thanks.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
