Celebrate trails, support our public lands, and have fun at this annual event sponsored by REI, NM Volunteers for the Outdoors, Santa Fe National Forest and Hyde Memorial State Park. Participants will join work crews to improve trails, be treated to lunch and other goodies, and be eligible for prize drawings at the end of the day. No experience is necessary; training & tools will be provided. Participants will need to wear long pants, long sleeves, sturdy boots (no tennis or athletic shoes!), and work gloves, bring plenty of water (2+ qts), sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), rain gear, and a pack to carry gear and lunch out on the trail. The festivities will begin at Hyde Memorial State Park at 8:00 AM. Volunteers will check in, pick up lunches and prize tickets, and organize into work crews. Lunch will be on the trail, and everyone will reconvene by 4:00 for prize drawings. The Park is 8 mi from Santa Fe on Hyde Park Rd, also known as Ski Basin Rd.
The National Trails Day event is co-sponsored by NMVFO but your Yes RSVP will NOT register you for the event and only serves to let other Meetup Members know that you plan to attend. All registration is through REI. If you plan to attend, please register at www.rei.com/santafe by Tuesday, May 28. If you do not register at the REI site, you may not receive updates or be counted for lunch. This event is not suitable for children under 12; minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
