Sisters Only

At this time, this Halaqa is for Sisters Only.  Co-ed classes for men and women will soon be offered in addition to this Halaqa through the mosque in a traditional classroom setting on Sundays.  Email mona@cape.com for more information.

About Us

Please join us at our weekly Thursday Halaqa, new and seasoned Muslims welcome! Learn more about our religion through reading Quran and various topics discussed. Enjoy time to learn and socialize while developing our bond of Sisterhood within the Islamic community.  As you will see from our Calendar, we have 3 meetings per month in a lecture style format and 1 strictly social evening where we sit together, share personal stories, ask each other questions, and play trivia games!  Each Halaqa is intended to be both fun and informative as well as a "night off" from mother's duties (for those of us with children).  We request that all moms take advantage of our beautifully equipped daycare facility or bring study/craft materials for older children to sit quietly.  Babies may remain with their mothers. (Please read more about Childcare below).

Attending the Halaqa

We usually bring snacks/beverages.  While we recognize and respect that different valid opinions exist regarding the permissibility of different foods, we ask that you take the more conservative approach to selecting your snacks being careful to read all labels for gelatin, alcohol or animal ingredients.  To learn more about this topic, please read our halal food discussion (forum pages) or ask a question at the Halaqa... (Don't forget some paper cups/plates & napkins)

About WIC

Our meetings are at WIC WORCESTER Islamic Center in the downstairs cafeteria.  If you are visiting the mosque for the first time, you will want to park in the front and enter through the "Sisters Entrance" on the left.  Please carry your shoes with you across the main social hall entrance and go down the farthest stairs (Sisters) to where we meet.

Non-Muslims wishing to learn more about Islam are also welcome.  Please observe modest dress and refrain from smoking, wearing perfume, or intoxicants.  You may read more about mosque etiquette on the WIC website: http://www.wicmasjid.org/aboutus/index/etiquettes.

Non-Muslims are also welcome to observe the congregation in prayer from the seated or standing area located at the back of the prayer room.

WIC has Office Hours where you can come in personally to ask a question...  If you are new to Islam, new in the area, traveling, or simply interested in more information about our group or Islamic education, please feel free to contact us.

WIC Office Hours (General Inquiry)
Mon-Wed: 5:30 - 7:30 pm
Thurs: 4:00 - 6:00 pm
Sat: 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Sun: 1:00 - 3:00 pm

Childcare

We invite your children to participate in our beautiful fully-equipped daycare at the mosque staffed with a qualified, caring and experienced childcare  provider well-known to us for many years in the community. Toddlers and younger children will be safer and happier in the daycare which is free from any dangers and equipped with age-appropriate toys and activities.

Well-behaving and quiet children 6+ older welcome at our Youth Study Table in the cafeteria (please bring homework and activities) or, if you prefer, under parent supervision, but must remain seated. No running, climbing,  yelling, or fighting is allowed. Children who are unable to keep to these rules will be asked to return to daycare. The use of childcare benefits all of our Sisters, including those without children, allowing them to listen to the lecture being presented and providing all attendees the ability to participate in discussion, focus, and ask questions.

Note: children of all ages must be supervised at all times while at WIC, especially going to the bathroom which has many dangers including hard, wet floors, and pointed corners.

Childcare is currently available for $5/child.  We are in the process of discussing/voting on fundraising strategies to help pay for childcare costs and other ongoing expenses.  No one turned away for lack of funds.

Please Join Meetup & RSVP for Weekly Halaqas

We kindly request that all attendees RSVP through Meetup to help us manage expectations for the evening including how many childcare professionals to reserve for our functions.  There are various articles of interest in the "Forum Discussion Pages" including how to reduce the number of email digests you receive from Meetup on a regular basis by changing your profile settings.  After you attend an event, please RATE your experience :-) We try to moderate our Meetup and respond to messages online as soon as possible.

Looking forward to seeing you insha Allah...
