I have already posted the books for August, but I am here requesting that you all send me your suggestions for future books.
I am especially interested in new good food books by women writers.
Also, want to run something by you... a lot of the new books by the celebrity New Orleans chefs such as John Besh and Susan Spicer, are kind of pricey. But they look great! I am willing to buy a copy and give it a quick look and then circulate it among the group, if you can pick it up and then return it. Would anyone be interested in that?
Also, what about a cookbook exchange? This would mean everyone brings a loved recipe/cookbook to the next Meetup and exchanges it for another one and then we can switch back or around at the following Meetup.
PLEASE let me know your thoughts on these ideas. I really hope we can create a community of people who love food, love eating, love cooking and can support each other in these glorious pursuits.
Banquets & Books is for people who are passionate about food and reading and who enthusiastically discuss books--fiction and non--about all aspects of food, cooking and eating. The plan is to meet every six weeks or so at my house. Each time, we’ll read and discuss a book on any and all topics related to food. Sometimes we'll see a film and then discuss it. As we talk, we’ll have a little wine (or what you will) and we’ll eat and sometimes cook together.
What we've read so far: 52 Loaves, "Babette's Feast", Kitchen Confidential, Consider the Oyster, Gumbo Tales, In Defense of Food, Best Food Writing 2009. And we have shared gumbo, home baked breads, tarts and kingcakes, cheeses and spreads, cakes and soups, along with wine and cool, clear water.
Even if you never cook but you love food, reading and talk, please join us! We are a passionate but fun and casual group.
