Thank you so much Caroline and Jennifer for the commentary on James Beard's Delights and Prejudices.?? Beard was one of my earliest cooking influences and his book on Fish was my bible when I took the job cooking fish.? It definitely seems like a great idea for our 3rd Meetup.
Banquets & Books is for people who are passionate about food and reading and who enthusiastically discuss books--fiction and non--about all aspects of food, cooking and eating. The plan is to meet every six weeks or so at my house. Each time, we’ll read and discuss a book on any and all topics related to food. Sometimes we'll see a film and then discuss it. As we talk, we’ll have a little wine (or what you will) and we’ll eat and sometimes cook together.
What we've read so far: 52 Loaves, "Babette's Feast", Kitchen Confidential, Consider the Oyster, Gumbo Tales, In Defense of Food, Best Food Writing 2009. And we have shared gumbo, home baked breads, tarts and kingcakes, cheeses and spreads, cakes and soups, along with wine and cool, clear water.
