Freret Street Festival is Uptown New Orleans’ new premier celebration of music, food, and art. Located in Uptown’s hottest new commercial corridor, the festival is free and open to the public.
First launched in the mid-1990s to celebrate the area’s rebirth and resurgence, the Freret Street Festival has grown larger and more popular in recent years. The 2014 Freret Street Festival will be held on, Saturday, April 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Freret Street runs Downtown to Uptown parallel to St. Charles and South Claiborne avenues. Though much of the street is residential, between Napoleon and Jefferson avenues, a once-vibrant commercial corridor that fell into a period of decline has been undergoing a rebirth in recent years. New businesses have moved in droves into long-vacant storefronts, and an arts district has emerged.
