New Orleans Lawyers is a FREE networking and mentoring group that meets once a month on Thursdays.
We hold our meetings in the upstairs event room at the Irish House on St. Charles Ave, near Lee Circle.
Group membership is free. If you'd like to sponsor us or advertise with us please contact the organizers for more information.
Who should attend?
1. Solo lawyers or lawyers who practice law in small law firms. (we have members in larger firms, but for the most part our group is comprised of small firm lawyers)
2. Lawyers just starting their law practice, or lawyers who've just moved to New Orleans. (many of our members join because we're an easy way to meet other lawyers in a relaxed, informal setting.
3. Lawyers interested in learning to use technology better (many of the discussion topics deal with how to use technology to be more efficient, cut costs, improve profits, and attract better clients).
4. Paralegals, and legal technology consultants, and marketing experts. In other words, folks who help lawyers in small firms improve their practices.
Who are we?
The group is run by Ernie Svenson, Andrew Legrand and Kris Canaday.
Ernie practiced commercial litigation in a large firm for 20 years, and then started a solo practice. He runs a website called PaperlessChase.com, which helps lawyers learn how to practice law with less reliance on paper. He's also known for his Ernie the Attorney blog.
Andrew is a young lawyer, who practices business law through Spera Law Group—a firm that he founded with another local young lawyer. Andrew is focused on being innovative and finding new ways to help his clients better, and more efficiently.
Kris is a paralegal who runs Integrative Legal Support, a company that provides virtual assistance and staffing for law firms. She also helps small firms improve their workflows and office systems.
How are folks typically dressed at meetings?
We strive to be relaxed and informal, so our members tend to come dressed in comfortable clothes. You probably won't want to come in a suit, unless you are coming from work. Wear a Hawaiian shirt and Mardi Gras beads if you feel like it.
We're a pretty fun group, and we avoid things that smack of stuffiness or pretentiousness.
How do I make a presentation to the group?
We don't allow non-group members to make presentations. And we require folks to have attended at least 2 meetings before presenting, because this helps ensure that the presentations are crafted to the style of our meetings.
What if I have questions about joining or anything else?
You can email Ernie Svenson at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact any of the organizers through the options provided by this Meetup group.
