Legislative Briefing and Happy Hour

The 2014 Legislative Session is well underway and has already proven to be a difficult session for Louisiana women and supporters of reproductive health and reproductive rights.

We are fighting many pieces of legislation, including Rep. Katrina Jackson admitting privileges bill, HB 388; and Rep. Frank Hoffmann's HB 305, which prohibits providers of elective abortions, affiliates and employees of affiliates from providing education and education materials on any topic in schools. These bills continue to “attack” women and the reproductive well being of our state and must be stopped!

I might get stuck at work a little late. Is it ok to show up a little after 5:30?

Of course, don't worry about that!

I'm leaving Slidell at 5:00, so I will almost surely be a little late.

I can't make the program but I am sending you all good energy--the kind of energy that will rock the world and protect all women with human rights and the right to decide what they want need and can live with. I am a feminist and a woman's advocate. The best advocacy comes with telling your story. Women tell your story and don't stop. Don't ever stop.

Hate to miss this important discussion. Our legislators are in 'divide and conquer' mode in LA and across the country: reproductive rights, healthcare rights, equal pay rights, gender-based violence, etc. We women are having to fight too many battles at the same time to make real progress on any of them (again!). Time to consolidate and demand our human rights.

I agree... it has been a rough session and it comes from all angles of attack. I wonder if women really see this constant battle going on or are they so busy keeping their lives going that it hasn't registered yet. It is never ending. The really sad part is that some of this comes from women legislators who seem to have no interest in helping women's lives beyond their own private religious agendas.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
