New Orleans, LA
Announcing a new Meetup for The New Orleans NOW Meetup!
What: Hearing on HB 587 to outlaw abortion this Wednesday!
When: Wednesday, May 18, 2011 9:30 AM
Where: Louisiana State Capitol
State Capitol Drive Capitol Park Welcome Center
Baton Rouge, LA 70802
Urgent Action is Needed! Help us protect women's health!
On May 18, Louisiana's House Health and Welfare Committee will debate an unconstitutional abortion ban (HB 587) by Rep. John LaBruzzo (Metairie – R). This dangerous bill doesn't even include an exception to save the LIFE of the woman.
We need you there to stand up for women's health and safety.
We need to send a clear message that we will not go back to the dangerous days of unsafe and illegal abortion. Outlawing abortion has NO impact on abortion rates, it simply makes it unsafe for women.
Please take a stand and come to the Capitol on May 18th.
What to wear? Bright PINK shirts
We need supporters to submit cards in opposition at the hearing and to offer visible support in the committee room. We need to pack the house!
If you can't make it to the Capitol, please call your rep on the House Health and Welfare Committee before Wednesday, 5/18 and tell them to protect women's health by voting NO on HB 587, the unconstitutional ban on abortion.
More info on HB 587:
* HB 587 criminalizes women who make the personal health care decision to have an abortion. Women who have abortions could be sentenced to prison for 15 years.
* HB 587 criminalizes doctors for providing abortions, INCLUDING those performed to save women's lives. Doctor who provide abortion care could be sentenced to prison for 15 years.
* HB 587 outlaws abortion for ALL women, including those facing pregnancies that jeopardize their health and future fertility.
* HB 587 is purely political. This bill is a political gift to anti-choice groups. Rep. LaBruzzo said it himself in a recent Times Picayune article - his intention is to give anti-choice groups a bill they can take to court.
