Myakka River State Park (Airboat, Tram, Canopy Walk) Less than $20

This place has it all and is open daily from 8 to sundown. $6 per carload for entrance. At no additional cost there's a nature trail and boardwalk and you can walk on a suspension bridge strung between two towers to walk along the top of the canopy. That will provide access to the top of the tower for a 360 degree birds eye view.

Optional: $12 for either one or $18 for both.

60 minute airboat ride. This is a very large airboat - not the zippedy-do-dah type and it's a narrated tour to see wildlife in the water and along the shore of the Myakka River and Upper Myakka Lake.  and/or

Narrated Tram: Discover what life in old Florida was like as you see it through the eyes of the early settlers. Learn to detect clues of the presence of resident wildlife as you pass through shady hammocks, majestic pine flatwoods, fertile marshes and sunny prairies. If you want to gain an understanding of the intricate workings of a natural ecosystem in progress, you have to experience it for yourself.

This is about a 90 minute drive from Muvico. (9 miles east of I-75) at exit 205 (Clark Road). Airboat tours are at 10:00 and 11:30 and 1:00 and 2:30. Trams are at 11:30, 1:00 and 2:30. They often sell out so they recommend that you buy your tickets for one or both when you first get there. Then do the canopy walk or the educational visitors center while waiting for your tour to start. Restrooms and lunch on-site.  Bring water, sunscreen and a camera.

Carpool from Muvico at 9:00. Each carload determines what time they will be leaving the park to head home. TIME SHOWN IS CARPOOL TIME. Please post if you prefer to meet us at the venue at 10:30

Fantastic, The boat ride can't be beat. Beautiful scenery, Smooth ride, fun and knowledgeable guide, water birds and alligators, alligators, alligators! Cant wait to repeat this one. The tram ride was interesting but bumpy, My back and neck hurt when we finished. I enjoyed it but probably won't repeat it. Lunch was good and I finally got to taste alligator meat. This venue really is good for more than one visit. A fun day with good friends.

Weekday and this place was packed. We actually got there at just the right time because it really got crowded later. Lots of out of state cars too which was a surprise to me. Gorgeous day - couldn't have picked a better one.

The airboat, as advertised, was not a zippedy-do-dah type - in fact we were just really trolling. Saw literally HUNDREDS of alligators - all sizes - in their own habitat and up-close-and-personal. Our guide, Ken, was extremely knowlegable and quite personable and humerous as he told us more than we ever realized we wanted to know about alligators. Would defintely do the boat experience of this place again. In fact those attending today want to return soon after the babies are born at the beginning of September.

Next was the tram through the woods. Not as interesting and wouldn't do that part of it again.

Great day spent with NTS Buddies
