Announcing our INAUGURAL meetup event for Live from New York! (Free & cheap events all over the city)

What: Join us for a wonderful (free) evening of laughter, music & fun!

When: August 5,[masked]:30 PM

Madison Square Park
Between Fifth and Madison Avenues Between 23rd and 26th Streets
New York, NY 10001

We kick off our inaugural meetup event with a wonderful evening spent together on the Oval Lawn at historic Madison Square Park (see below for directions).

We meet at 5:30PM, by the fountain just beyond the Shake Shack. We will find a comfortable spot on the lawn to... LAUGH!

Led by one of our own, GramercyGal, we will laugh together at 6PM in a Laughter Yoga session. Laughter has been shown to have numerous physical and psychological benefits -- and what better way to get to know other NYers than to laugh together? NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY, but a willingness to participate is! (Check out our web page for a YouTube video of GramercyGal demonstrating Laughter Yoga.)

We will then relax together as we wait for Grammy-nominated guitarist and composer John Scofield to perform. The park's Shake Shack sells various food items. There are also food stores in the neighborhood. Of course, you may wish to save money by bringing your own food and drinks.

I will bring some champagne to celebrate our first meetup event.

Next up, at 7PM, you may enjoy the sounds of the John Scofield Trio. Please read below for more info about John.

Please remember to bring a blanket for lawn seating (no chairs are allowed). Please also come as early as possible so that we can reserve enough space for the group.

Hopefully, it won't rain. I will contact all those who RSVP'd 'Yes' or 'Maybe' by 1PM on August 5th if there are any relevant schedule adjustments. I will give you my cell #, to use if you can't find the group.

The show will end around 8:30PM.

* About the John Scofield Trio:

Ever since joining the Miles Davis Band in 1982, Grammy-nominated guitarist and composer John Scofield has been blazing a path across genres from straight ahead jazz to funk, and gospel to R&B. His most recent release, Piety Street (EmArcy) is a collection of "old time Gospel" tunes done Scofield-style. Joining Scofield are long-time collaborators Steve Swallow and Bill Stewart. Check out our web page to read more about John, and to listen and watch clips of his music.

* Directions:

Madison Square Park is located in the Flatiron District, between Fifth and Madison Avenues and 23rd and 26th Streets, just 8 blocks south of the Empire State Building. To get there by subway, take the R, W or 6 train to 23rd Street. On weekends only you can also take the N train to 23rd street.
