Summer, of sorts, is here and with it comes some great opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. On Saturday afternoon July 19 some of the world's best young opera singers are performing in the Yerba Buena Center (that beautiful patch of green between the now dormant MOMA and the Metreon/Target).
Every year hundreds of aspiring performers audition but only 23 are chosen to study with the San Francisco Opera. This is their performance and it is full of enthusiasm and a lot of fun. No advanced knowledge of opera is needed. They'll bring a small orchestra and perform arias from Madama Butterfly, Carmen, Mignon, Luisa Miller, La Cenerentola, Semele and other masterworks.
We'll sit on the lawn to share food, drink and conversation in advance of the performance. Afterwards (about 4pm) perhaps we'll try to take over a local drinking establishment.
Good chance to meet your fellow New Yorkers in full daylight. Hope to see you there!
