The San Francisco Opera is coming to Golden Gate Park on a Sunday afternoon, and it is a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet your fellow New Yorkers in the (relatively) warm September sun with some great music and fun onstage.
We just need to bring some food and wine and and spread out some sheets with New York perspective. The San Francisco Opera will bring their highly acclaimed orchestra and perform their favorite arias to mark the opening of their Fall Season. It is a very lively performance and everyone on both sides of the stage has a lot of fun. Knowledge of opera won't make much of a difference to your overall enjoyment of the afternoon.
Sharon Meadow is in the eastern section of the park of the park, near the area where Haight Street ends and a number of your favorite Muni lines go close by. Enter the park on Stanyan between Fell & Oak and follow the crowd.
Afterwards, the first ever Haight Street Music & Merchants Street Festival will still be going on or you might find a Haight bar to watch the end of the the 49ers opening game against the Cowboys (the NY Giants don't play until Monday night)
We have a $1.00 per event fee; our hope is that by collecting a very small fee from each attendee we'll be able to make the group self sustaining and cover the Meetup fees. Just hand a dollar to the event organizer when you get there.
I'll be sending out a Google Voice number to the attendee list to help find us. Try to get there early for the NY socializing.
Hope to see you all there!
