Hi, fellow New-Yorkers! I grew up in Flushing, Queens, and was uprooted to L.A. mid-way through junior high school. Talk about culture shock. Been in gorgeous SF for 20 yrs. and many other places in between; but I will always feel like a New Yorker.
Resided on 173rd St and 65th Ave. Attended PS 173 and George J. Ryan JHS 216. Skipped a grade. Caught fireflies and threw the Spaulding ball against the stoop on summer evenings. Put up storm windows and went sledding in the winters.
I have no idea--I was only a kid! And my parents didn't get out much. Ask me about Carvel ice cream.
My first NYCBTB event, great to meet many interesting people, all extremely nice. Looking forward to meeting up again at other events. BTW, also enjoyed meeting some folks from our "sister group" on this event, San Francisco City Steps.
Are you the Marilyn Alan whom I met in L.A. in the 90's before you moved up here and whom I got together with when looking to move up here too? Were you in publishing? I've been iiving here since 1998!
Thank you, Marilyn.
I look forward to meeting you too.
Hi Marilyn!!! Welcome to the Bandstand! You sure named a BUNCH of great groups there (of those, probably my favorites would be Ray, Aretha, Martha and Marvin... and I would add Sly and the Family Stone to that list although they weren't strictly R&B, more funk, but way way way ahead of their time). And of course the British Invasion encompasses a whole 'nother bunch of great bands! Looking forward to meeting you at your first meet-up with us!
