New York City was once a hub of innovation in the field of electroacoustic music, but those days are long gone. While instrumental music of all kinds is well represented in New York concerts, it is rare that electroacoustic music is heard, and often works are not presented in the kind of ambience that they need. In order to improve this situation, we have organized large festivals of electroacoustic music in 2009, 2010, and 2013 (http://www.nycemf.org). We now propose to expand these events and create an organization devoted exclusively to electroacoustic music in New York City: the New York City Electroacoustic Music Society.
We invite you to join and become a member of this group. The organization will consist of composers, performers, and supporters of electroacoustic music. Meetings will be held devoted to the following kinds of activities:
* concerts, including those at the annual festival * salons, where members can present and discuss their music with the group * lectures by prominent individuals in the field * presentations by companies developing products of interest to the field * presentations by artists from other fields, like video or dance * user groups * presentations and discussions about the use of music software * organizational activities * social gatherings
