Let's drink beer after saving the world from zombies!

You can really work up a thirst saving the world and nothing satisfies that thirst better than an ice cold beer. So why not join Team Beer Club at this year’s Zombie Take Manhattan Run on Roosevelt Island!

From the event website, here’s a description:

Zombies Take Manhattan! is the newest running event from the evil geniuses at NYCRUNS. Runners can play as either Zombies or Humans and will run or walk a course of about 3.5 miles while playing a game that incorporates elements of flag football and capture the flag.

Though this is not really a competitive event, the top zombies and humans will earn prizes. However, the emphasis is on fun and runners and walker of all ages are welcome. After you’ve finished rescuing people (or eating them), you’ll enjoy a post race party featuring local rockers The Fades.

After all of the Beer Club members finish, we can head over to a nearby place, such as Draught 55, to celebrate surviving the zombie apocalypse!

Further details about the meeting place afterwards will be provided closer to the event date. As always, there will be plenty of communication about details surrounding the event in the days prior to the meetup.

Key info:

• You must sign up on the website in order to participate http://zombiestake.com/

• Cost is $50

• You are responsible for getting to the event by yourself

• You can choose to be a zombie or a human

• You don’t have to run, walking is okay

This is on Roosevelt Island.  You need to take the F train (or the tram from 2nd Ave) to get there.  Map of event is available here: http://zombiestake.com/logistics/

That was the link to the video I took. If you look closely, you'll see three members of Beer Club.

Bill said it best- Yet another event with great beer & even better company! Love Draught 55, it's becoming one of my favorite GCBL venues.

Hopefully, there's room for one more post-apocalyptic survivor at Draught 55. I'm heading over for a beer.

My friend & I plan on getting there around 9:30-ish as well, & I'll be trying to channel Zombie-Hunter realness with the best apocalyptic ensemble I can muster. Werk!

I was supposed to get a costume and it said it was delivered, but according to the tracking, it was signed for somebody who does not work in my building and the doormen cannot find it anywhere. I may have to improvise at the last minute!

It was a zombie that took it.

The event website encourages humans to dress 'in character', a la as if one were a survivor of some sort of apocalyptic zombie plague. Ideas??? (I'm not up on my cosplay like I should be ; )

Christian, I was truly just thinking about that 15 minutes ago. I believe I have a camouflage bandana somewhere (don't ask) so I was thinking about wearing that and going "Rambo-lite". I'd be open to other suggestions as well!

Okay everyone, for those of you who are more interested in beers than zombies, I am confirming we will meet at Draught 55 (245 E 55th St New York, NY 10022) after the event.

I was there last week and spoke to the manager Katrina and she said they open at 11:00 for people who want to go straight to the beer. The official race starts at 10:30 (although there are things to do ahead of time**we'll discuss race logistics later) so most people should hopefully be finished by 11:30 and we can head over there.

If any non-human/non-zombie wants to coordinate a specific meetup time at the bar, send me a message.

what, and they can't dress up like zombies and chase us? :)

Hey Bill- Great idea for a group! I had already signed up with a gal pal & we may join afterward so it's a tentative 'yes', but will let you know for sure closer to the date.

    • Bill

If you're there for the running of the zombies I'm using you both as human shields so already counting you as a yes!

    • Christian

We're 'humans' by the way, though again- I'm legitimately scared even though I know the 'zombies' will really be Williamsburg hipsters...

I will be a human and hope to be consumed so I can consume after the race.

    August 26, 2013

  • Ed W.

I will probably just join for the festivities after the apocalypse.

    August 21, 2013

    • Bill

You could be a zombie! You don't have to run as much

      August 21, 2013

  • Nancy

This is so in my wheelhouse. Alas I will be attending a B'ar Mitzvah. Next zombie event I am so in.

    August 20, 2013

    • Bill

I totally thought of you when I saw it! Sorry you can't make it

      August 20, 2013

  • Kwame

Hey, I live on that island but I'll meet up for the post races festivities because 50 bucks is a little steep for the zombie apocalypse. It will allow me to have 50 bucks more for beer!

    August 20, 2013

  • Chris

I probably won't be helping Gotham city from the zombie apocalypse. But I'll glad take part in the libations after the festivities!
