Multi-Hike: Breakneck Ridge & Harriman - Brisk Intermediate 10+MI

  • Aug 3, 2013 · 8:00 AM

***[masked]-HIKE ***

*** If getting a ride, don't forget to help the driver with gas and tolls: $10 is customary***

*** This is not a hike for beginners, nor for people who like to take their time on the trail. We'll be moving at a brisk pace, faster than my usual hikes. There will be no sweep, so hikers must be able to navigate trails on their own ***

Morning: We'll start the day climbing up Breakneck Ridge to Sunset Point, then back via Yellow Trail, past Sugarloaf (7mi, 3,000ft elevation gain, many ups & downs)

Late Lunch: Then we'll go for a sit-down BBQ Lunch

Afternoon: On the way back, we'll hike to either Breakneck Pond or Pine Meadow Lake in Harriman (~4mi) and enjoy the water. Note that the park does not officially allow swimming in these lakes.

Getting a Spot:

Please write in your RSVP if you can offer a ride or need one.

Update your RSVP if you can't make it.

No public transportation available this early in the morning. Car drivers should get to this parking lot (That's [masked],[masked] in case the link doesn't work) at 8AM. This is the larger parking lot about 0.2mi north of the tunnel.

Day Hiking Gear:

• Standard gear: hiking boots, non-cotton clothes, consider long pants to protect from bugs, swim suit/towel

• Sun block, sun hat, bug spray (Tic season!!!)

• 2 liters of water minimum. More if you get thirsty easily.

• Lunch, Snacks and extra food. Pack enough for both parts of the day

• East Hudson Trails hiking map / Southern Harriman Trail map

• Headlamp (a must)

• Hiking poles (strongly suggested)
