Hiking and Camping in the Adirondacks - Drivers Wanted! - Advanced Trip

No location was chosen

Contact Andre, your Organizer, about this trip.

We need drivers! Please RSVP and note that you have a car. (This is a car camping trip.)

The Hikes:
Some of us will be doing the Trap Dike on Saturday, which is limited on space and not for everyone. However, there are lots of great hikes in the Adirondacks for Saturday and I can suggest some options for people.

Sunday we generally do a short hike - 5 to 6 mile, one or two peak

The Rough Plan:
Friday: Leave midtown no later than 6pm. Drive 5 hours to the campground. We'll be car camping at a nice campground. It has showers.

Saturday: We'll raise early for our various hikes.

Sunday: An optional short and brunch at a local dinner. We'll plan to be on the road by 2pm and back in the city by 7pm.

How to Get a Spot:
- RSVP accordingly!

Transportation:
Drivers Wanted! - We will reimburse you for all gas and tolls, including your share.

If we're short on drivers, we'll rent a mini-van.

Food:
Friday - stop for dinner on the way up.

Saturday - quick breakfast at the campsite, bring your own lunch, snacks, and "trail dinner" (second lunch). We might have a late dinner or late night snack at the campsite.

Sunday - Breakfast at the a local diner. Bring your own lunch. Dinner will be on the road or back in NYC.

Required Gear:
-sleeping pad and sleeping bag suitable for the 40s at night.
-Waterproof Boots (no trail shoes of any kind)
-All the standard hiking and camping gear (a complete list will be sent out to participants)
-For Saturday, you'll need lunch, trail dinner (basically a 2nd lunch), and snacks for the trail

Please note in your RSVP if you have:
-A tent and how many it sleeps (we need tent space for all people, we generally have enough)
-A camping stove - I'd like a second one to boil water for breakfast.
-A Car!

Cost:
$25 per person to cover campground, group food, and pies.
Also bring cash to help your driver pay for gas and tolls.

Weather:
Average hi/low: 70s/40s
Always expect rain. Weather above the treeline is always worst, so a good shell and an extra layer are required.

I camped here two weekends ago, at the ADK site, and hiked Mt. Marcy, the highest of the peaks. Highly recommend it! The summit is truly breathtaking!

I think Yinga and I will be driving from NJ (we each have a car). How many people still need rides? I can take +3 and can pickup from NJT or Beacon. Please contact me directly... if no one does, then I'll carpool with Yinga.

If anyone is interested we are going up with the Hudson Valley Hikers on Sunday up MacNaughton mountain.

We also have space for one more person in our car leaving from Beacon at 4:08pm. Should be at the tentsite by 7:08.

I think it was a Summit Steward named Kate that suggested Noonmark pie to me two years ago!
