Nov. 22 & 24 - Mountaineering Series - Rock to Ice Lessons in New Hampshire

2 spots have opened up!

November 23  - Alpine Mountaineering Classes to prepare for Winter/Spring climbs

For a second year, Hiking and Nature will organize Mountaineering lessons to work with any level of hiker and continue through the Winter and Spring seasons to any level you would like to achieve.

The Mountaineering Series of H&N will begin in November with essential techniques of rock climbing and move into mixed Snow, Rock, Ice, and technical mountaineering by the end of the Spring Season. You can go to one event or many depending on how much you want to learn.

Beginners can start with the basics of scrambling and rock climbing and move into movement on snow and ice by December.  More advanced climbers can begin with skills review,  anchor setting, multi-pitch set-ups and bring those skills to the steep snow and ice by December.  In  the late winter we'll have one day of lessons and a second day of independent climbs or hikes.

The International Mountain Climbing School in North Conway, New Hampshire will keep track of the progress of each climber and work with them during the season to ensure each person is achieving their goals.

Note to Technical Mountaineering Climbers: This course work will lead up to two climbs in Colorado (Mt. Elbert, and Capital Peak) in April, and two climbs in the Alps (Mont Blanc: Par les Grands Mulets, and Matterhorn) in July.  Time to prepare is now!.

November Courses will Cover:

Beginning Skills:

- belaying skills,
- rappelling
- basic anchoring systems,
- multi-pitch climbing techniques
- physical climbing skills

Intermediate Skills:

- Review belaying and anchoring systems,
- Review rappelling,
- Placement and removal of climbing gear
- Main focus will be on advancing climbing technique, understanding the multi-pitch systems and becoming familiar with a variety of anchor systems

All climbing equipment is included in the cost of the lesson.

Cost: For each group of four the daily rate per person will be $120. We'll keep a 4:1 student to guide ratio and take advantage of group rates to keep costs low. 2:1, and 1:1 is always possible. See Rates sheet here.

The Plan

Friday, Nov. 22nd: We'll leave NYC early on Friday (3:00 pm) and drive to North Conway NH, and stay at the Conway Hostel.

Saturday, Nov. 23rd: Start out early and arrive at the school to fit gear and go to the mountain. The lessons will be an 8-hour day of skills and practice.

Dinner at the Wolverine Grill w/live band (always fun!)

Sunday, Nov. 24th: Start out early and begin the second day of instruction.  Learning belay methods, rope handling, and alpine climbing technique.

We'll wrap up by 4:30 and be on the road by 5 back in NYC by 10 or 11pm.
