I'm training for some Colorado 14ers, so I'm doing some breakneck laps.

Probably up breakneck, then up sugarloaf, up breakneck again, then looping around to catch Taurus on the way out. That's a bunch of loops, so this makes a great hike for all levels of hikers who want to push themselves.

The Basics:

This is not a hike for beginners.

Hiking Level: 100%

Terrain: Steep scrambling and several hills

Elevation Gain: Up and down, up and down, up and down

Distance: Around and around and around

Hiking Pace: No sweeper or set group pace. Push yourself!

Link to the trailhead/trailend parking lot: parking lot (that's[masked], [masked] in case the link doesn't work. Just go to Google maps and enter the coordinates). This is the larger parking lot about 0.2mi north of the tunnel.

Public Transportation Meeting Location & Return Time:
Metro North Railroad: Take the 7:43am train from Grand Central to the Breakneck Ridge stop, arriving at 9:05am. The finish time is heavily based on the group's pace -- "likely" be 4pm, plus/minus one hour. At the end of the day, you may hop on the train at the Breakneck Ridge stop (check the times) or at Cold Spring station (a 2.5-mile walk/ hike with trains running hourly). Some willing drivers might be able to shuttle you to the Cold Spring station.

Drivers, please plan on arriving just before the train so we can meet you in the parking lot and start hiking immediately.

Car Drivers and Riders:
People who are coming by car and are willing to give rides, please write in your RSVP from where and when you are leaving. If you'd like a ride, please contact a driver (and bring $5 to chip in for gas and tolls.)

Day Hiking Gear:
Standard winter gear: hiking boots, non-cotton clothes,  one more warm layers then you expect to need, warm hat/gloves, big puffy jacket for when we stop for lunch

2 liters of water/hot drink minimum

Lunch, snacks and extra food.

Great spring day! We did breakneck, sugarloaf, breakneck again and the under cliff to cold spring. We saw some rain on the horizon but it was mostly sunny all day and very breezy.
