9-mile walk along the Hudson River Greenway

WHAT: Join us as we walk along the Hudson River Greenway starting at 125th Street and ending at Battery Park.

WHY: Exercise, meet new people, friendly chitchat, photography, people-watching, boats, barges, seagulls, terns, statues, art, etc

WHERE: Meet at 125th Street and the Hudson River. See this link for the exact meeting spot: http://goo.gl/maps/CsmU1

• Take the 1 train to 125th Street and walk a few blocks west to the Hudson River. See this link: http://goo.gl/maps/yPue2

• You can also take the A, B, C, D, 2 and 3 trains to 125th, but it's a farther walk to the meetup spot.

WHEN: Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at 11am. We will wait 20 minutes for any latecomers. The walk will commence at exactly 11:20am

WHO: Look for a big group of people standing on the "corner" of 125th Street and the Hudson River. If you get to that spot between 11:00 and 11:20am you'll see us. If you arrive after 11:20 you will have to catch up.

PACE: The pace of the walk will be moderate, about 3.5 mph, but if you can't or don't want to walk that fast, no problem. You'll walk with a slower group. It's not a race.

DURATION: Approximately 4 hours

DISTANCE: 9 miles. If you can't do the entire walk or don't want to, please feel free to break away at any time.

REST: There will be one or two bathroom breaks along the way.

EAT: Anytime during the walk, if you feel like munching on a granola bar, a banana, trail mix or whatever, please feel free, but at the end of the walk we will find a place to get a bite. If you do not wish to join us, you don't have to.

RAIN DATE: Another time

My events are about meeting people and having fun. All ages are encouraged to attend: Single, married, couples, widows, gay, straight, black, white and everything in between. Just be friendly and have the ability to socialize with relative normalcy.

If you've never been to a meetup, don't worry, there are always new people. The event host is very nice and friendly. You can come alone or bring a friend or two or three. Upon your arrival I'll greet you and introduce you to some people. It's really quite painless.

It was crazy windy and pretty darn cold in the beginning, but after the 70th street piers/buildings, and the Intrepid and beyond it was like a spring meadow minus the meadow. =) Once we got to the end, the remaining group went to a restaurant/bar and got our snack & drink on. It was great meeting everyone. Until next time...

Hi everyone. According to my weather sources, it's supposed to be a beauuuuutiful day tomorrow (Sat): mostly sunny with a high of 62. As mentioned in the event details, the meeting time is 11a and the walk start time is 11:20a. I am very strict about this so be on time. If you're late, you'll have to catch up. I'm not inc. my phone # this time and posting questions to the meetup page will be useless during the event time. Prior ok. At present there are 268 people RSVP'd for this so get ready to meet a lot of possible new friends (however figure 50% no-shows).

Some people have asked if they can bring their kids and/or dogs and the answer is yes. Bring babies in a stroller. Bring fast-moving pet iguanas. Bring a flask of whiskey. Do whatever you want, but please be civil and friendly and have the ability to talk to strangers cuz a lot of that will be going on. Thanks.

We had a ton of people during a similar walk we did in the Fall of 2013: http://www.meetup.com/5BoroEXPLORATION/photos/18487522 - It started out pretty cold, but it warmed up nicely later. We had an amazing time! About 85 people showed up across multiple meetup groups. Many people broke off along the way and about 10 people in my moderately-paced group made it to the end and around 6 of those people joined us for that long-awaited bite to eat. It was such a relief to stop and relax and the walk and the scenery was sublime. Great times and great people! When the weather warmed up I said I would do it again so here we are. =)
